History of Salm

In the ancient times, when the dukedoms and baronies that existed on the land that we now call Salm were for the first time united under one ruler, the birth of our beautiful nation transpired. Despite their differences in culture and even language, the people lived together harmoniously under one leader. These were rich and prosperous times, and a trace of the ancient glory is still tangible close to the antique streets and structures spread all throughout Salm.

For a long time, the provinces were united under the judicious leadership of one emperor or empress. Throughout the decades and centuries there were many, over 80 rulers bestowed their mark upon the ancient civilizations, and once their time to retire neared, each of them chose who would be next to lead. They all followed an unspoken rule, not to select members of their own family.

Until there came the day when Gurnard IV decided to crown himself the king of these nations. Thus, as he aged, his son was to become the next king, and after him his grandchild, continuing the lineage.

This was maintained for three generations, until the major merchant families of the country came to an agreement with the present king, to establish a parliament, in which they would advise him on his decisions.

The king thought nothing of this, was he not aware of the plan this parliament had for him. He only came to know about it on the day of his own assassination. The families then, as we know today, blamed the killing on the guild of the fishers, as to secure their own place in the parliament and one week after the elimination of the monarch, proclaimed the Republic of Sphyrna.

However, this deceit was not well-thought-out.

The fishers were angry about the circumstances, which, in this new republic, only allowed the merchant families a vote. It was only for 34 days that this republic lasted, before the Great Fisher Uprising of Silverside occurred.

The battle lasted for 47 hours, until the fishers took over the building of the parliament. The constitution of the republic was burned, and its ash fed to the carps of Scalyfin Lake, before the fishers composed a new constitution, as the foundation of Salm as we know it today. They demolished the parliament and, in its stead, established the senate, consisting of one representative of each region of Salm, to lead this country with fairness and respect.
