After the sudden decision of senator Creek to step down from his position as representative of Stone Island at the Council of Salm, the search for a successor has taken place under strict supervision. Tonight, the senatorial lottery committee has finally come to a conclusion. And the newest Councillor of Salm might be more famous than you’d suspect…

Earlier this week, Engmar Creek decided to step down from his position as representative of Stone Island in the Council of Salm, following serious accusations of appointing members of old noble families to important, high-ranking positions through ‘special selection procedures’. After his decision to end his political career in Salm, the Council has assembled a senatorial lottery committee to appoint his successor, ensuring that Stone Island will be continued to be represented at the Council.
In accordance with article 35 of the constitution of Salm, the senators of the Council of Salm, representing the different regions of our nation, should be appointed by means of lottery. This way, rich influential families have nothing more to say in the process than regular fishermen and no one can influence potential elections.
After drafting the names of all healthy and capable citizens of Stone Island, the committee put them together in a big symbolical fishing hat. The final name was drawn by the hand of the youngest member of Stone Island’s fishing guild, who reeled out one piece of paper with his fishing rod. Shockingly, the newest Councillor of Salm isn’t as unknown as one would expect. The name written on the piece of paper was Kalmar Heilbut.

“Though it is certainly a twist in my career, I will take on this new job with the greatest respect for our nation and I will fulfil my duties with honour and justice in mind.”
Heilbut has been a rising star in the folk music genre for the past five years and has got quite some media attention already. He started out his career at many fisher’s markets throughout the country, playing on his barrel organ or practising his well-known solos on his accordion. After gaining some recognition, the artist founded his own band and Kalmar’s Calamari were even invited to play at the Blueshore Folk Festival. Even if his performance was criticized by many, this didn’t stop Heilbut from going international and playing at the wedding of Thomas and Isaura Isobel Iberis at the Devinian court.
Now, Kalmar Heilbut will have to put his musical ambitions to the side, as he’s got political duties to fulfil. This morning, he was able to confirm to our newspaper that he will accept the position of representative of Stone Island at the Council of Salm. “Though it is certainly a twist in my career, I will take on this new job with the greatest respect for our nation, and I will fulfil my duties with honour and justice in mind.”
Only time can tell us if Heilbut will be as skilled in the political arena as he is on the big stage, but the people of Stone Island will have to trust this local pop star to keep their best interests in mind.
